HEALING YOUR MIND, BODY & SPIRIT

Trauma-Informed Yoga: Unlocking The Path to Healing
When we see the mind and body as separate entities, we block ourselves from true healing.
In traditional yoga practice—whether in a community class or at home—it’s natural for your emotions to surface. Flashbacks, racing thoughts, and emotional discomfort can emerge without notice.
In challenging poses like Chair or Warrior II, it’s normal for your body to release long-held emotions. You might find yourself quietly crying on your mat in Savasana, wondering how to process what arose for you.
At Discover Peace Within, we provide a safe space for you to unpack everything—the flashbacks, memories, and emotions that inevitably arise with an integrated yoga practice.
We’ll help you make sense of what arises and experience deeper healing with trauma-informed yoga therapy.
Trauma Informed Yoga FAQs
-
Trauma-informed yoga is a slower, more intentional approach to yoga. It’s designed to help people feel safer and more connected in their bodies, especially after trauma. The focus isn’t on doing the poses “right,” but on noticing how you feel and moving in ways that support healing, not stress. text goes here
-
In many yoga studios, classes can feel fast-paced, physically demanding, or focused on form. Trauma-informed yoga is different. You’re given choices throughout the practice, there’s no hands-on adjusting without consent, and the pace is gentle. It’s about creating a safe space where you can explore movement in a way that feels empowering, safe, and honors your own comfort.
-
Trauma often shows up in the body—in tension, disconnection, or a sense of being on edge. This practice helps calm the nervous system and slowly rebuild trust with your body. Over time, many people notice less anxiety, more presence, and a deeper ability to rest.
-
Yes, 100%. You don’t need any prior experience. Trauma-informed yoga is beginner-friendly and really honors the idea that you know your body best. We’ll move slowly; there’s always room to pause or skip something if it doesn’t feel right. Your Trauma-informed yoga instructor will offer modifications and options throughout the practice. You are also always welcome to speak up if something doesn't feel right.
-
This kind of yoga can support people working through trauma, grief and loss, anxiety, chronic stress, or anyone who just feels disconnected from their body. It’s especially helpful if you’re already in therapy or doing emotional work and want something that includes the body in the healing process.

At Discover Peace Within:
Private yoga therapy sessions are $150 for an hour
Group sessions range from $50 to $75

If you have questions about cost or need a sliding scale, reach out—we’re happy to talk.
-
That really depends on what you’re looking for. Some people come for just a few sessions to learn tools they can use at home. Others stick with it longer because they find it grounding. We offer a free 20-minute consultation call if you want to talk through what might work for you.
-
Sessions are quiet, slow, and focused on helping you feel more present. You might start with a short check-in, then do some gentle movement (often seated or lying down), along with simple breathwork or grounding exercises. There’s no pressure to do anything that doesn’t feel right. In individual sessions, you and your trauma-informed yoga instructor can check in with how each pose feels in your body. This style of yoga is all about getting to know what feels supportive in your body. We work with your body, not against it.
-
Individual sessions are just for you, so we can adjust the pace and focus to what you need. Group sessions follow a shared format and can be really supportive if you like practicing with others. Groups are a great way to connect with like-minded people. Both are flexible, and in both settings, you’re always encouraged to move in ways that feel safe.
-
This can be a normal experience - and that is totally okay. If this should happen, your trauma-informed yoga instructor is there to support you. If something feels too much, we can slow down or pause. You’re always in control, and your emotional safety is more important than pushing through. These sessions are a safe space where whatever shows up is welcome, and you won’t be judged for it.

Understanding the Impact of Trauma through a Mind-Body Connection
Trauma isn’t just stored in your memories; it’s stored in your body. When you experience a traumatic event—loss of a loved one, assault, traumatic birth, or ongoing stress—your nervous system responds by going into survival mode.
The ongoing experience of survival mode can manifest physically as tension, chronic pain, sleep issues, or intestinal upset, alongside other mental health symptoms, including racing thoughts, anxiety, and depression.
Through practices like trauma therapy, EMDR, trauma-informed yoga, and mindfulness, you can become more aware of how your body responds to stress and trauma. These practices help regulate your nervous system and support healing on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level.
Discover Peace Within can help you heal with a full-range of personalized yoga services
